Cycle and train

The accompanied bikes on trains service is available on almost all SBB trains, on most private railways and many other transport companies (one bike per person only).

The accompanied bikes on trains service is only available if there is sufficient space.

National bike tickets are valid for the SBB and many other Swiss transport companies including PostAuto Schweiz AG postbuses but not for many shipping companies and mountain rail & cableways. These require a special ticket.

National bike tickets are: bike pass, 1-day bike pass, multiple-day bike pass and local bike pass.

The blue train-information signs at railway stations show where the self-load carriage stops. Please go to the respective sector before the train arrives at the station.

The cycle pictograms at the doors will lead you to the cycle stand.

Trains without the accompanied bikes on trains service or trains requiring reservation are marked in timetables and on the yellow departure tables at stations.

During the biking-season from 21 March to 31 October reservations are compulsory for the accompanied bikes on trains service on all Intercity tilting trains (train-category ICN).

The accompanied bikes on trains service is not available for groups from 10 persons. For group excursions such as school trips, we recommend cycles from Rent-a-Bike. All relative information is found at rent-a-bike or in the brochure «Mit dem Mietvelo auf Tour» (in German, French and Italian only, available at railway stations). If members of your group still want to take their own bikes, they should send their bikes as unaccompanied luggage. Bikes can be transported to any station with a luggage-handling facility.

Riding bikes on platforms is strictly prohibited. Please push your bike when on the platform.

Crossing the tracks is prohibited with or without a bike.

Planning on discovering Switzerland by bike? Here you will find important bicycle carry-on information for Postbuses.

You may take your bicycle with you on Postbuses providing there is sufficient space available and you do not obstruct passengers from getting on or off the vehicle.
